who's out there?

Postby Garcia, Johnnie » May 17th, 2013, 7:04 pm

Thanks, Pete. We were a Detachment of Tachikawa and consisted inside and outside, cable splicers, radio maintenance & operators. We were out on the flight line installing telephone cable when we saw a black bird (sr71) take off. What a beautiful site!!!

And I was with Bob on one of those trips in '68 and again with John Stover on another in '69. We had a TTY troop from the Kadena Det on a job in Korea with us in '69, too. Can't remember his name.

I worked with an outside plant crew from Tachi when I was station in comm sq at Osan. We went to work on high tower antennas in Kunsan. I don't remember their names. The OB beer I drank downtown messed up with my memory. My yo-bo from Osan came with me and stayed downtown most of the time. She was a gorgeous gal. Lots of fun. I was all over Korea working on transmitter, receiver, & radar sites. We worked with this civilian engineer. I can't remember his name, but he had a wife at stateside & had one in Korea. He spent most of his time in Korea. He used to weld with sunglasses. Hell of nice guy would always buy us beer after work. Did you ever go to Chico Village off base in Osan. We would go to the A-frame and get totally mess up.

I never heard of anybody that didn't go to the A-Frame or any other bar in Chico Ville.

We went tp several but the 2 bars I remember, The A Frame down the main street past the tracks? and the Club Stereo (I think) down an alleyway off the main street short walk from main gate. But life was good when you could visit "hot breath" hill and get "hummed" for about 50 cents.

Don't recall the A Frame, but know for sure I visited all of the bars down the alley left off the main road.

I could not remember the name of the club outside the main gate on the right side of the street, but my crew chief Larry Botkins would bring his records and listen to country music and proceeded to get drunk. I could always tell when he spent the night, because the next morning his breathe smell like Kim-chi.

I finally made connection with some one that was in Kadena when I was there '66-'67. He was with another outside plant team, and both teams went tdy to Miyako Jima to replace the radar dome that was destroyed by the typhoon that went through that area. Bob Hoots is his name and lives Washington. His nickname was Hooter. It is great to shoot the bull after so many yrs. Thank You for your service who ever reads this message, especially during memorial Day week end, and honoring the ones that gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Thanks Tommy, Glad to hear from a pole jockey. Okinawa brings back many good memories including the hang overs and sleep overs. If you hear of a Van Delay let me know. He was another 36150, and We would go downtown on pay day and get a hair cut, shave, mud pack, steam bath & massage. Great times!!!
