GEEIA Safety Commandments

Tom Shane, of Travis County, Texas owns the patch displayed on the left.

The wording at the top of the patch is “Tired Tigers”, and the bottom wording is “Griffiss AFB, N.Y.”

Tom found the patch among his father's belongings and wondered the origin of it.

If you have any information on the patch, please send it to James.Badgett@GEEIA.org

According to Nick Beyer, our unofficial historical researcher, the patch may have been worn by one of the following ---

--- NCO’s promoted to Master Sergeant at Griffiss AFB --- probably part of the 485th GEEIA Squadron after it was brought back to the U.S. from Viet Nam.

--- Or it may have been worn by a group from the Wallace Air Station.

--- Or it may have been worn by a KC-135 squadron under the 416th Bomb Wing.  From 1968 through 1972 they supported “Young Tiger” operations in SE Asia with extended TDY trips.  About half of the crews were deployed at any one time, resulting in “Tired Tigers”.
